DAY 1
Monday August 21st
Welcome to Puglia
Meeting Point: 14:00 Brindisi Airport
Welcome to Puglia! Upon arrival at Brindisi Airport, we will gather the group and make our way to our private hotel in Puglia. A delightful welcome lunch will await our arrival, allowing us to taste local flavors and begin our culinary adventure.
In the afternoon, you will have some free time to explore and soak in the charm of Lecce, known for its stunning architecture and rich history. Take a leisurely stroll through the picturesque streets and enjoy a refreshing drink in this captivating city.
In the evening, we will gather for dinner at our beautiful Masseria hotel, where you can indulge in exquisite regional cuisine and unwind in the enchanting atmosphere.
Get ready for a remarkable experience as we embark on our Puglia adventure together!
DAY 2
TUEDAY August 22nd
Alberobello and Ostuni
After breakfast by the pool, we will drive to the village of Alberobello for a guided visit of this picturesque Trulli village. We will explore its unique cone-shaped houses and visit Casa Rossa, a camp which provided shelter to Jewish refugees during World War II.
Next, we’ll head to the Ostuni area to visit an olive oil farm where we will learn about olive oil production, visit ancient olive trees, and enjoy an olive oil tasting experience. Our lunch will be served at the farm.
Following lunch, we will have a walking tour of the city of Ostuni where we will view the white-washed houses, ancient defensive walls, and the magnificent Gothic cathedral.
Later that afternoon, we will return to our hotel, where you can relax by the pool before enjoying a wonderful dinner and taste some of Italy’s best kosher wines.
DAY 3
Wednesday August 23rd
Matera
We will begin our day in the historical old center of Matera, a truly captivating destination. Known for its remarkable cave-dwelling districts called the Sassi, Matera offers a glimpse into centuries of history and culture. We will wander through the narrow lanes that wind alongside the picturesque cliffs with cliffs caves, and listen to some intriguing stories that will unfold.
During our visit, we will explore the cave churches, witnessing the ancient religious heritage of the region and discover the old Jewish quarter, delving into the rich Jewish history that once thrived in this area.
That afternoon, we will begin our journey back to our hotel, reflecting on the extraordinary experiences and memories we have made in Matera. Take this time to relax and enjoy the scenic drive, appreciating the beauty of the surrounding landscapes.
DAY 4
Thursday August 24th
Cave hike and visit the beautiful beach towns: Monopoli and Poligano del Mar
Our morning will begin with a visit to the remarkable Castellana Prehistoric Cave System. Prepare to be awed as we embark on a two-hour hiking adventure, exploring the captivating underground world adorned with stunning stalactites and stalagmites.
Following our cave exploration, we will depart for the charming coastal town of Monopoli. We will uncover the rich history and vibrant atmosphere as we take a leisurely stroll through the city, discovering its hidden gems and enjoying a light lunch.
Once we have satisfied our appetites, we will continue our journey to Pogliano del Mare for a short visit. This charming coastal town offers picturesque views and a glimpse into the local way of life.
As the day comes to a close, we will make our way back to the comfort of our hotel, where you can unwind.
DAY 5
Friday August 25th
After breakfast, we will embark on a guided tour of Medieval Lecce. Explore the old Jewish neighborhood, notable landmarks like the Belloluogo tower, St. Niccolò and Cataldo Church. We will discover the historic center including the impressive Santa Croce Church, Piazza Sant’Oronzo, and the Roman Amphitheatre. Following lunch and an Italian espresso we will visit Palazzo Taurino to learn about the Jewish history in Lecce. We will explore the Jewish Museum, sip on a glass of Kosher Salento wine and taste local Kosher products. You will then have some free time to appreciate the city before returning to the hotel for Shabbat Preparation.
Kabbalat Shabbat will take place in our hotel.
DAY 6
Shabbat Day, August 26th
After Shacharit and kiddush, we will indulge in a delightful Shabbat Buffet Lunch, filled with our chef’s delicacies. Following our Shabbat meal, take some time to unwind and relax by the pool or explore the scenic surroundings of our hotel estate.
Later, after havdalah, you will have the opportunity to enjoy some free time in Lecce, take a leisurely stroll through the charming streets, immerse yourself in the local culture, and have a drink in one of the local bars.
DAY 7
Sunday August 27th
Nardò, Gallipoli and Otranto
Our next adventure awaits as we visit Nardò for a guided tour of this medieval town, still partially enclosed within its ancient walls. We will also explore the old Jewish section and discover Le Cenate, an area renowned for its elegant villas dating back to the 18th and early 20th centuries, which were built to provide shelter for Jewish refugees in the local DP Camp after World War II.
We will continuing our journey and head to Santa Maria al Bagno, a picturesque seaside village that served as a haven for Jewish refugees between 1944 and 1947, and visit the unique Jewish Museum (Museo della Memoria e dell’Accoglienza) adorned with captivating murals that tell stories of resilience and survival.
Our next destination is the captivating town of Gallipoli, where we will enjoy a guided tour of the old town center, situated on an island accessible only by a bridge. We will marvel at the exquisite Baroque architecture and be captivated by the awe-inspiring views of the Ionian Sea.
Departing from Gallipoli, we will make our way to the medieval city of Otranto for a half-day tour. Take a leisurely stroll around the city bastions, visit the historic Aragonese castle, and explore the famous cathedral consecrated in 1088, renowned for its intricate mosaic floor depicting the months and scenes from the Old Testament. We will discover the church Crypt supported by 42 marble columns and view the Byzantine frescoes in the nearby church of San Peter.
Finally, we will enjoy some free time in the enchanting city of Otranto before we make our way back to the hotel, allowing you to cherish the beauty of this historic city at your own pace.
DAY 8
Monday August 28th
Time to say goodbyes
Enjoy an early breakfast as we prepare for our departure to Brindisi Airport. Make sure to fuel up for the journey ahead.
